American Exceptionalism–And An ‘Exceptional’ President

Obama may be the first U.S. president to lack faith in our special history, our special spirit and our special mission in the world.

For nearly four centuries, we as a people have believed that America has a special and unique role to play in the world. Here is a land of new beginnings and new promise, not merely one nation among others. But we have to ask: Do our leaders still believe this?

Americans have believed in American exceptionalism since John Winthrop wrote 380 years ago that America would be a “city on a hill,” shining for all the world to see. When de Tocqueville visited the young United States in the 1830s, he concluded that we were a “unique” nation. He pointed to the truly democratic nature of our government and society and the opportunities America provided to its immigrants at that time.

Later, historian Frederick Jackson Turner set forth the thesis that America’s uniqueness stems from its spirit developed on the Western frontier. And after World War II and during the Cold War era, America served as the symbol of and protector of freedom and democracy for the whole world.

But in a new era without an American frontier or even a Cold War or the Apollo moon program, do our leaders believe that America has retained its unique American spirit and destiny? And what are the consequences for our nation if they do not?

This idea of American exceptionalism is so fundamental to our identity as a nation that even President Obama had to address it. At the NATO Summit in Strasbourg, France, in 2009 President Obama said, “I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism.” But despite his stated belief in our uniqueness, his implication here is that our national self-confidence will not protect us from decline–just as similar beliefs in national destiny did not protect Britain and Greece. Why didn’t the president use China or India as a more positive example?

And let’s look at the president’s deeds, not just his words. President Obama favors global summits in which we participate humbly among large groups of the world’s nations. He has embraced meetings of the G-20 group of countries, including China and Russia, as a more “global” replacement for the G-7 meetings of the seven largest industrial democracies. He also embraces global, rather than national, solutions to the current economic crisis. European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet recently paid a visit to Washington to call for regulation of financial services across national boundaries. Is global regulation or even global taxation as some Europeans have proposed, on the president’s agenda?

How far we have come in such a short time! Where is President Truman’s belief that “America was built on courage, on imagination, and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand”? Where is John F. Kennedy’s stirring inaugural address, full of possibility and of an unshakable belief in America’s unique role in leading the world? Both, it should be noted, were Democrats: The belief in American exceptionalism has, until recently, been truly bipartisan.

President Obama may be the first American president to lack faith in our special history, our special spirit and our special mission in the world. This difference alone makes Barack Obama an exceptional president. He is exceptional in the literal meaning of that term–an exception because of his views on America’s limited role in the world. Thankfully, millions of ordinary Americans disagree, and for millions of ordinary people around the world, America remains, in Lincoln’s words, “the last best hope of earth.”

Then-Vice President Bush put it well in 1988, while running against Michael Dukakis: “My opponent … sees America as another pleasant country on the U.N. roll call, somewhere between Albania and Zimbabwe. I see America as the leader–a unique nation with a special role in the world.”

Now, the Dukakis view of the world seems to have been adopted as an unofficial, if unspoken, policy of this administration. The policy elites all seem to believe it, and they act daily on that belief. Our leaders take a cramped view of our own country, its history, and its possibilities. I’m extremely concerned about the implications of our debt and budget crises for our future, but I’m still confident in America and Americans.

I still believe in American exceptionalism. But I am concerned that if we are not lead by leaders who believe in our unique American spirit and mission, then we will not be able to remain an exceptional nation for long. And we will not be able to retain what President George H.W. Bush described as our “special role in the world.”

And in this new era, does the idea of American exceptionalism need to be reinterpreted in order for the United States to remain a truly unique nation? We are now lead by an administration that has consistently denied our special gifts and our special responsibilities. And afterward we will need a leader who–like President Ronald Reagan–can help understand ourselves, our strengths, and our example for the world again and in a new light.

Rob Miller’s ethical shortcuts don’t jibe with his ethics plan

ROB MILLER PLAYS LOOSE WITH ETHICS RULES
How can liberal Democrat propose ethics reform when
he doesn’t honor the spirit of the existing rules?

(Columbia, SC – August 30, 2010) Second Congressional district hopeful Rob Miller tries to position himself as a champion of ethics reform. He has proposed a package that his campaign website claims will “restore faith in government.” But it’s hard to believe the liberal Democrat is attempting to campaign on “restoring faith” when he has disregarded House ethics rules right out of the gate.

The Ethics in Government Act of 1978 requires all House candidates to file a Personal Financial Disclosure Statement. Among other things, candidates must report any liabilities, such as debt from a line of credit, they may have. They are also given the option of identifying all co-owners of property they own.

In May 2006, Rob Miller and his brother Gardner Miller purchased two properties in Charleston: one at 119 Coming Street for $710,000, and another at 1 Poulnot Lane for $706,500. That same month, they also received a line of credit for $70,650 for the Poulnot Lane property from Regions Bank in Charleston. [This is according to the Charleston County office of Register Mesne Conveyance, as posted on Charleston County's official website, www2.charlestoncounty.org.] This credit line was not reported on any of candidate Miller’s financial statements filed in 2008, 2009, 2010.

While there is no evidence that Miller has drawn on this credit line, $70,605 is readily available to him any time he chooses to take it.

Not being forthcoming about this line of credit is a troubling omission. It reveals more than simply to whom a candidate may one day be indebted, and how much he would owe. It tells the public which businesses a candidate would be beholden to after the election. It also reveals he has an additional $70,650 at his disposal which could be used to fund the Rob Miller for Congress campaign. This is not in keeping with a candidate who says he wants to “restore faith in government.” Rob Miller has consistently avoided making this credit line public knowledge in the spirit of full openness and complete transparency. Why is this? He owes the people of the Second Congressional district an explanation.

But there is more.

Miller also chose to not disclose that his brother was a part owner of the homes located at both 119 Coming Street and 1 Poulnot Lane. This was not disclose don Miller’s campaign statements filed in 2008, 2009 and 2010. According to the Charleston County tax assessor’s office, the yearly property tax bills for 2007 were sent to an address in Brooklyn, New York.

The lack of full disclosure of Miller’s co-ownership of the Charleston properties is equally troubling. The Personal Financial Disclosure Statement says: “If you so choose, you may indicate that an asset or income source is… jointly held in the column on the far left” (side of the form). Rob Miller clearly chose not to indicate that he co-owned two expensive houses with his brother.

Not making that disclosure was especially egregious because Gardner Miller was a significant financial contributor to his brother Rob’s 2008 congressional campaign. Gardner Miller donated the maximum of $4,600 ($2,300 in the Democrat primary and another $2,300 for the general election). He also donated another $10,000 that year to the South Carolina Democratic Party.

Rob Miller was given a choice, and he opted against honoring the spirit of the House rules by not practicing full and open disclosure.

Failure to disclose this information shows a cavalier attitude toward ethics rules. It is especially noteworthy coming from a candidate who professes to make “ethics reform” a major portion of his campaign platform.

Rob Miller’s website says: “Keeping Washington honest will be one of Rob’s highest priorities as a member of Congress….”

In Rob Miller’s case, honesty needs to start with himself. He must make his own campaign honest before he worries about keeping Washington, or anyone else, fully open and completely honest.

Rob Miller – the real Big Spender in the SC-02 Congressional race

HEY, BIG SPENDER!
Liberal Democrat Rob Miller doesn’t “practice what he preaches” on spending

(COLUMBIA, SC – August 25, 2010) “When you point a finger at someone, you have three fingers pointing back at you.” Perhaps Rob Miller missed school the day his teacher taught that lesson. Although he is pointing an accusing finger on federal spending, his own fingers point right back at him on the same subject.

It all started late last week when the liberal Democrat’s congressional campaign issued a news release attacking Congressman Joe Wilson for supporting “the single largest instance of government spending in the history of our country when he voted for the bailout…”

Stop right there.

For starters, Miller’s assertion is wrong. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, commonly known as the “Stimulus Bill,” carried an estimated $814 billion price-tag and is widely considered to be (using the terminology in Miller’s own news release) “the largest single instance of government spending in the history of the country.” Congressman Joe Wilson voted against it. So Miller’s claim is utterly wrong. [Source: The Associated Press, August 24, 2010]

On top of that, while Joe Wilson voted against the enormous spending spree made possible by the stimulus bill, Rob Miller has attacked Joe Wilson for opposing it. Talk about trying to have it both ways!

But there’s more.

Rob Miller is on record as saying he would have voted for the massive hijacking of our nation’s health care system (peddled as “health care reform” and commonly derided as “Obamacare”) that was passed by Congress last March. [Source: Lexington County Chronicle, March 25, 2010]
Miller seems to have conveniently forgotten just how expensive this “reform” is. The socialization of America’s premiere health care system by the Obama-Pelosi-Reid Gang –which Rob Miller says he would have voted for– is expected to reach $940 billion dollars when all its costs are added up. [Source: The Associated Press, March 18, 2010]
What’s more, that measure is also the most sweeping power-grab ever made by the federal government. When this “reform” is fully enacted, its provision requiring all Americans to carry health insurance or a face a significant fine means the government will intrude into the life of every single American citizen. To put it simply, Washington liberals saw a chance to make Big Government even bigger, so they pounced on it. And Rob Miller is on record as saying he would have pounced with them.

Had he been in Congress at the time, Rob Miller says he would have voted to pass health care “reform,” right alongside Nancy Pelosi, Henny Stoyer, Barney Frank and the rest of Capitol Hill’s ruling liberal elite.

Rob Miller’s TV commercial boasts about “the courage to do what’s right.”

Doing “what’s right,” Mr. Miller, is being honest with the people of South Carolina. Doing “what’s right” is not posing as a “fiscal conservative” while also favoring a nearly $1 trillion dollar piece of legislation. Doing “what’s right” is not making misleading and inaccurate charges against your opponent.

Rob Miller’s latest negative attack is the latest reason why he is wrong on the issues, and wrong for South Carolina.

Rob Miller Goes on TV; WWII Patriot calls on him to display the “courage” he touts in his ad

ROB MILLER’S NEW TV AD TOUTS “THE COURAGE TO DO WHAT’S RIGHT;”

SC WWII patriot asks him to display it by returning $370,000+ to MoveOn.org

(COLUMBIA, SC – August 18, 2010)   A South Carolina veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars is responding to liberal Democrat Rob Miller’s new TV commercial by asking Miller to display the courage he promises in it.

Miller took to the airwaves today, with a commercial that promotes his military record. All South Carolinians owe Miller, and all the other brave men and women who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, a debt of gratitude.

Miller is apparently taking a page from his losing 2008 campaign play book and hoping an avalanche of TV advertising will send him to Washington.

One thing is different this time: his new TV ad promises “the courage to do what’s right.”

A military veteran who fought in World War II, Korea and Vietnam War veteran today joined the growing chorus of distinguished retired South Carolina military leaders calling on Miller to cut his ties to the liberal activist group MoveOn.org.

Rob Miller’s TV commercial talks about courage,” said Colonel Charles Murray, U.S. Army (retired) of Columbia. “Courage is having the strength to do the right thing. MoveOn.org slandered General David Petraeus’ honor and integrity. Rob Miller can display courage by cutting his ties to MoveOn.org and returning every penny of the $370,000 it sent to his campaign. Doing that would show true courage.”

Major General James Livingston, USMC (retired) and South Carolina Adjutant General Stan Spears have also asked Miller to distance himself from the group and return the money to MoveOn.org.

Lead by example, Mister Miller. Show us your courage by doing the right thing. Return all of MoveOn.org’s money and repudiate the extremist group.

Rob Miller says one thing to the Aiken Standard, another to Liberals

ROB MILLER TRIES TO HAVE IT BOTH WAYS
Liberal Democrat talks “centrist” to folks in the 2nd District
while also telling liberals he is one of them

(Columbia, SC – August 17, 2010) Liberal Democrat Rob Miller keeps trying to have the best of both worlds.

He made a pair of rare personal appearances on the campaign trail last Saturday, popping up in Pelion and Salley. Judging from news accounts, he was yet again trying to pass himself off to folks as a middle of the road Democrat. Here is what the Aiken Standard reported Sunday about his visit: “The nominee (Miller) believes the nation needs to get back to the concept of the sensible center, where Republicans, Democrats and Independents can actually sit down and talk….”

Stop the press! Once again, what Rob Miller says at one time doesn’t match what he says at another.

On Saturday, it was “sit down and talk.” But just two days before that, a contributor posted this on the very liberal Daily Kos website: “Received a surprise call from Rob Miller today. He’s fundraising, and my name wound up on his list… I told him that I hope progressives (read “liberals”) can run on their principals and not compromise for the sake of “bipartisanship.” He agreed…”

So much for “sitting down and talking.”

But it doesn’t stop there. Just six weeks ago, Rob Miller chatted up another liberal blogger, who posted the following about his conversation with Miller on the liberal Down With Tyranny blog on June 29th: “I asked him if we can expect to see him join the Blue Dog Caucus in Congress. He (Miller) laughed. “I get asked that all the time.” He said he wouldn’t be joining the Blue Dogs and an impeccable source told me that the Blue Dogs approached Miller several times bearing gifts– promising to raise money for him… and he turned them down flat.”

You see, Rob Miller knows that most folks in South Carolina’s Second District are moderates and conservatives. But he clearly is not. So in order to win their votes in November, he must pretend to be one of them now. Which makes some people wonder how he would actually vote if he winds up making it to the House.

We already know the answer. Rob Miller leaves behind him a trail as wide as an Interstate highway revealing his true political colors, and he cannot run from it. Exhibit A: the $370,000+ that the activist busy-bodies at MoveOn.org have rounded up for him from liberal donors in New York and Massachusetts and Oregon and dozens of other blue states. (By the way, as recently as last Monday, the Hilton Head Island Island Packet reported Miller still won’t say whether he will heed the growing chorus of calls for him to send that money back to MoveOn.org.)

Rob Miller poses as “one of us” on those rare times when he actually campaigns in South Carolina, then poses as “one of them” when he talks to liberals.

So as we head into the depths of summer, the guessing game goes on: who is the real Rob Miller, and whose side is he really on?

The Financial Godfather of American Liberals Turns 80 Today

HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY TO UBER-LIBERAL GEORGE SOROS

Liberal Democrat Rob Miller has 370,000+ reasons to be grateful to him

(Columbia, SC – August 12, 2010)  In case it isn’t marked on your calendar, this is the birthday of the financial godfather of the modern liberal revival in America. George Soros, the Hungarian-born billionaire and wanna-be U.S. king-maker, turns 80 today.

His fingers are thrust into political pies all across the country, including right here in South Carolina. More on that in a minute.

George Soros is a currency speculator and stock mogul known as “The Man Who Broke the Bank of England” and holder of the 29th spot on Forbes magazine’s 2009 list of the world’s richest people. After acquiring more money than the notorious Robber Barons of the late 18th Century ever amassed, he decided to remake America’s political landscape to resemble the socialist culture of the Europe he had left behind.

And he had the money to do, it. too.

So George Soros began writing checks – big hefty checks, to fund an array of ultra-liberal organizations. And he got his leftist buddies to do the same, too. Soros so passionately wanted to defeat President George W. Bush for reelection in 2004 that he called it “a matter of life and death.”

His largesse has rained down countless millions of dollars on ultra-liberal organizations over the past decade.

Soros was an early and enthusiastic backer of MoveOn.org (he gave some $5 million to them in the 2004 campaign alone). MoveOn.org is the very group that has funneled more than $370,000 into liberal Democrat Rob Miller’s congressional campaign here in South Carolina this year.

MoveOn.org owes a lot to George’s generosity. And so does Rob Miller. Because if George Soros hadn’t ponied up millions of dollars to help get MoveOn.org up and running in its early days, the balance of Miller’s campaign bank account would be more than $370,000 lower today.

So on behalf of Rob Miller and his liberal supporters all across America, happy birthday, George! Thanks to you, the Left keeps sprouting a new generation of candidates whose views and values are miles apart from ours.

Oh, and keep the checks coming, will you?

What if they held a “protest march” and nobody showed up?

MOVEON.ORG’S “MARCH” FIZZLES
Group can channel $370,000+ to Liberal Democrat Rob Miller,
but only gets one person to show up for protest

(COLUMBIA, SC – August 10, 2010) The poor guy standing on the side of the busy road this afternoon must have felt like the Maytag Repairman.

The extremist liberal group MoveOn.org had promised a march on Congressman Joe Wilson’s Midlands district office in West Columbia today.

But just one forlorn protester showed up holding signs. What a lonely way to spend a hot summer afternoon.

It is the latest setback for the group that has had a very bumpy ride lately. Just yesterday, a South Carolina hero added his voice to the growing chorus of military generals calling on liberal Democrat Rob Miller to cut his ties to MoveOn.org and to return the $370,000 he has received from them. Medal of Honor recipient and Major General James Livingston USMC (retired) put it this way when he talked t a group of military veterans at a luncheon in Beaufort on Monday: “I think he (Miller) ought to look at himself in the mirror and deal with that. If he’s the Marine I think he is, he’s going to look at himself and say, “You know, I’ve got to give that money back. They (MoveOn.org) don’t fit my background and my commitment to the American people.”

Consider this: the more than $370,000 that MoveOn.org has channeled from donors all across the country and sent it to Miller’s campaign is roughly the same amount that MoveOn.org funneled into the recount of votes in Minnesota that helped put leftist comedian Al Franken in the U.S. Senate, and that it directed to Martha Coakley’s ill-fated attempt in Massachusetts to keep Ted Kennedy’s seat in Democrat hands.

Rounding up a mountain of cash isn’t enough for MoveOn.org. While it is pumping big bucks into the Second District Congressional race in hopes of being a player in Palmetto politics, today’s extremely low turnout for their “march” is the latest sign that South Carolinians reject MoveOn.org.

That’s because their agenda is based on attacking and tearing down, not supporting and building up. While Congressman Joe Wilson focuses his efforts on helping bring badly-needed jobs to the Second Congressional District, MoveOn.org is content to rail against people who don’t share their liberal values.

Today’s “march” was meant to be a clever ploy to distract attention from the real issue: Rob Miller is hanging on to every last penny of the more than one-third of a million dollars MoveOn.org has sent him. This despite the fact that Miller knows MoveOn.org slandered the honor and integrity of General David Petraeus simply to advance its own liberal agenda.

Sorry Mr. Miller, but MoveOn.org’s plan to drag a red herring across the campaign trail didn’t work out as planned. That old Three Dog Night song was right; “one is the loneliest number.”

Meanwhile, we’re still waiting for your answer: will you do the right thing, cut your ties with MoveOn.org, and return the money to them?

You are telling us your answer with your silence.

Medal of Honor recipient asks Rob Miller to Return $370,000 to MoveOn.org

MAJ. GENERAL JAMES LIVINGSTON CONDEMNS ROB MILLER FOR TAKING $370,000 FROM MOVEON.ORG
Urges liberal Democrat candidate in SC’s 2nd Congressional District to return the money

(BEAUFORT, SC – AUGUST 9, 2010) Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Major General E. James Livingston, USMC (Retired) today joined a growing chorus of military generals in condemning the liberal activist group MoveOn.org, and the South Carolina Democratic congressional candidate supported by the far left activist organization. A Federal Election Commission financial report shows it has funneled $370, 965.10 into Rob Miller’s campaign.

“I think he ought to look at himself in the mirror and deal with that,” Livingston said at a luncheon in Beaufort. “If he’s the Marine I think he is, he’s going to look at himself and say, “You know, I’ve got to give that money back. They (MoveOn.org) don’t fit my background and my commitment to the American people.”

Livingston reminded reporters that when General David Petraeus was about to begin Senate confirmation hearings in September 2007 prior to assuming command of U.S. Forces in Iraq, MoveOn.org smeared Petraeus’ honor and integrity with a full-page advertisement asking “General Petraeus or General Betray Us?” Livingston said the ad was deeply offensive. “I don’t get mad often, but I got mad as hell about that. That’s the reason why I’m engaged today.”

Livingston also noted that in addition to the $370,000 channeled through MoveOn.org, several other ultra-liberal groups have also sent money to Miller’s campaign. “Another one is the Council For A Livable World, which wants to get huggy and kissy with North Korea and Iran. These are the kind of people who are trying to influence the election here in South Carolina.”

Livingston concluded his remarks by appealing to military veterans to get involved in this fall’s mid-term elections. “So sharpen the bayonets, re-engage, polish up the brass and say ‘We’re in this fight.’ Because America is at a defining point, and the people that we send to DC must understand that we want America to be a better country for our kids and grandkids than it was for us. That’s what we’re up against.”

Rob Miller Commends General David Petraeus, But Keeps $370,000+ In MoveOn.org Money

ROB MILLER TRIES TO HAVE IT BOTH WAYS
He belatedly releases statement praising Gen. David Petraeus while accepting $370k from MoveOn.org, the liberal group that slandered Petraeus

(Columbia, SC – August 5, 2010) Liberal Democrat Rob Miller is at it again, trying to have it both ways. He thinks a throw-away comment tacked onto the back end of run-of-the-mill press release can get him off the hook with upset South Carolinians.

Here’s the story. Just a few hours ago, his campaign released a statement urging the Senate to confirm the non-controversial nomination of General James Mattis to head U.S. Central Command. So far, so good.

But then Miller concludes with this comment: “American soldiers and Marines fighting in Afghanistan deserve nothing but the best, and teaming General Mattis with General David Petraeus means that they will have exactly that.”

Whoa, hold on a minute, Rob! Did you just praise General David Petraeus, the battle-tested commander who successfully stood up to the insurgency in Iraq and drastically reduced the sectarian violence there? The same General Petraeus who did such a good job that President Obama just appointed him to command U.S. Forces in Afghanistan?

You sure did. And that puts you in a very sticky situation, sir.

You see, your campaign has accepted more than $370,000 rounded up from liberal donors all over America by MoveOn.org. That’s the same group that slandered General Petraeus’ honor and integrity with an infamous advertisement in 2007 carrying a banner headline that asked “General Petraeus, or General Betray Us?” In fact, MoveOn.org was so proud of that disgraceful ad, it stayed posted on the group’s website until just a few weeks ago!

You can’t have it both ways, Rob. You can’t take money and support from the very people who smeared General Petraeus’ good name to advance their extremist goals, and then think a tepid pat on the back slid into the bottom of a non-controversial campaign statement will make the problem go away.

Rob Miller takes liberal money and uses liberal volunteers, then tosses out General Petraeus’ name as he panders for conservative votes.

You need to renounce MoveOn.org and return their dirty money.

This kind of shallow, unprincipled politicking keeps South Carolinians wondering: who is the real Rob Miller, and just whose side is he really on?

Will Miller, Clyburn and Spratt let your taxes shoot up on January 1?

WATCH OUT FOR YOUR WALLET! HEFTY TAX HIKE

COMING ON 1/1/11

Will liberal Democrats Miller, Clyburn and Spratt side with Pelosi to let it happen?

(Columbia, SC – July 28, 2010) Here is a riddle: When is a tax hike not a tax hike? Answer: when liberal Democrats like Rob Miller, Jim Clyburn and John Spratt allow tax cuts to expire at the end of this year, thus making your taxes go up.

Don’t be fooled by the Democrats’ election year rhetoric about “increasing taxes on the rich.” Yes, the wealthiest citizens will pay more. And so will you, too. In fact, you’ll be surprised to find that under the Democrats’ definition, you are now “rich,” because starting next January 1, every American who pays income taxes will feel the pinch. And it won’t be pleasant.

Just look at these numbers:

A family of four earning $50,000 per year could pay $2,100+ in higher taxes.

• A single mom earning $36,000 per year could pay $1,100+ more in taxes.

• Married senior citizens earning $40,000 per year could pay $1,400+ in higher taxes.

Source: Committee on Ways and Means Republicans

And it doesn’t stop there. Taxes will also go up on capital gains (the investments needed to grow our economy), small businesses and more. Even the Death Tax will be resurrected from the grave to haunt us once again. The final tab for this cash grab on American citizens is expected to total $3.8 Trillion annually. That’s Trillion, with a “T”! There’s no escaping it: one way or another, the coming tax hike will take a big bite out of your bottom line.

Why do the Democrats want to take all that additional money from us? To help pay for the biggest expansion of the Federal Government since LBJ’s “Great Society” sent Washington on a runaway spending spree nearly 50 years ago. Now history is repeating itself with the “Obamacare” hijacking of our national health industry and a bloated federal stimulus program that has grown way too big for it’s britches.

Which brings us to Rob Miller, Jim Clyburn and John Spratt. These pro-Obamacare, pro-Big Government liberals enjoy talking like fiscal conservatives in their districts. But when they’re talking in Washington, they’re all in favor of Obamcare and the bloated stimulus bill. Yet ask how how they would pay for them, and you get a lot of political hemming and hawing. It’s so bad, in fact, the House Budget Committee (which Spratt chairs) didn’t even bother writing a Federal budget this year!

Will Miller cheer while Clyburn and Spratt stand with Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat House leadership and do nothing as they silently allow higher taxes to go into effect? The people of the South Carolina deserve an answer.

So come December 31st, the clock will tick down to more than just the end of 2010. Unless bold legislative action is taken immediately, when the hands reach midnight we’ll all be glumly shouting “Happy New Year! Higher taxes are here!” Will Miller, Clyburn and Spratt lift champagne flutes to toast their arrival, while gleefully scheming ways to fund even bigger government expansion?
